A directed magnetic field induced assembly technique was employed to align two phase (h.c.p. + f.c.c.) cobalt nanoparticles in a mechanically robust long wire morphology. Co nanoparticles with an average size of 4.3 nm and saturation magnetization comparable to bulk cobalt were synthesized by borohydride reduction followed by size selection and magnetic field induced assembly. The coercivity of these nanowires was higher than their nanoparticle counterpart due to shape anisotropy. The experimental coercivity values of the nanowires were lower than the predictions of the coherent rotation, fanning and curling models of coercivity due to the preponderance of superparamagnetic particles with zero coercivity.  相似文献

Aerosols affect the radiative energy budget on both the regional and global scales. The wavelength-dependent aerosol optical depth (AOD) is a fundamental determinant of the amount by which extra-terrestrial incoming sunlight and outgoing terrestrial radiation are being attenuated in the atmosphere. The present study addresses the influence of local waste burning on aerosol characteristics, black carbon (BC) aerosol mass concentration and spectral solar irradiance using ground-based measurements over the tropical urban environment of Hyderabad, India. AOD has been observed to be maximum during burning days compared to normal days. Aerosol size spectra suggest bimodal distributions during pre-and post-burning periods and trimodal distributions during burning periods. Angstrom wavelength exponent estimated from spectral variation of AOD suggested dominance of accumulation mode particle loading during burning days compared to normal days. Diurnal variation of BC on normal days showed a broad nocturnal peak during ∼20:00 to ∼24:00 h with a maximum value of BC aerosol concentration of ∼14,000 ng m−3 whereas on local waste burning days enormous increases in BC concentrations have been observed with a peak at ∼60,000 ng m−3. Relative attenuation of global solar irradiance during burning days has been found to be of the order of 30% in the visible and 28% in the near-infrared regions. We report on the electrochemical properties of layered manganese oxides, with and without cobalt substituents, as cathodes in sodium ion batteries. We fabricated sub-micrometre-sized particles of Na0.7MnO2?+?z and Na0.7Co0.11Mn0.89O2?+?z via combustion synthesis. X-ray diffraction revealed the same layered hexagonal P2-type bronze structure with high crystallinity for both materials. Potentiostatic and galvanostatic charge/discharge cycles in the range 1.5–3.8 V vs. Na | Na+ were performed to identify potential-dependent phase transitions, capacity, and capacity retention. After charging to 3.8 V, both materials had an initial discharge capacity of 138 mA?h?g?1 at a rate of 0.3 C. For the 20th cycle, those values reduced to 75 and 92 mA?h?g?1 for Co-free and Co-doped samples, respectively. Our findings indicate that earlier works probably underestimated the potential of (doped) P2-type Na0.7MnO2?+?z as cathode material for sodium ion batteries in terms of capacity and cycle stability. Apart from doping, a simple optimization parameter seems to be the particle size of the active material.  相似文献

Ethnopharmacological relevanceIridoid glycosides have been associated with decreased risks of cancer, such as hepatocarcinoma. Although Picrorrhiza kurroa has shown activity against hepatocarcinogenesis, its mechanism of action is poorly understood, further the anticancer activity of iridoid glycosides present in this plant has not been tested so far.Aim of the studyHere, MCF-7 cell lines (Human breast cancer) were used to test whether P. kurroa extract (PE) and its isolated iridoid glycosides Picroside I (PS), Kutkoside (KS), and Kutkin (KT) exerts the anti-invasion activity via down-regulation of the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). MMPs play an important role in solid tumor invasion and migration.Materials and methodsThe activity and expression of gelatinases (MMP-2 and MMP-9) and collagenases (MMP-1 and MMP-13), protein, and mRNA were detected by gelatin zymography, and RT-PCR. The migratory and invasive capacities of MCF-7 cell lines were measured by the wound scratch migration assay. The preliminary cytotoxicity testing was done by MTT assay and propidium iodide staining. Further the inhibition of inflammatory mediators was also done by quantification of nitrite inflammatory mediators.ResultsThe study showed that PE and its isolated iridoids glycosides PS, KS, and KT exhibited considerable cytotoxic potential in a dose-dependent manner. Further PE, PS, KS, and KT inhibited MCF-7 cell invasion and migration, and decreased MMP-2, 9 and MMP-1, 13 activities. Furthermore, PS, KS, and KT reduced MMPs expression at protein and mRNA levels, and suppression of the inflammatory mediators was also exhibited.ConclusionsOur results suggest that PS, KS, and KT may be the valuable anti-invasive drug candidates for cancer therapy by suppressing Collagenases and Gelatinases. PS, KS, and KT showed good results in comparison with PE. PS and KS exhibit almost comparable down regulation while KT exhibited maximum suppression of invasion, migration, and expression of MMPs.  相似文献

The effective geometry parameter, αg = n o /n e, is used to evaluate the orientational order parameter, S, in the case of N-(p-n-butyloxybenzylidene)-p-n-alkoxy anilines, 4O.Om and N-(p-n-heptyloxybenzylidene)-p-n-alkoxy anilines, 7O.Om compounds with m?=?3–7 and 9 in the former case and m?=?3, 5–7 and 9 in the later materials. The results obtained are compared with those calculated using the standard techniques of molecular polarisability and birefringence. The effective geometry parameter's influence on the deflection of light by the liquid crystal compounds is also studied. The variation of temperature gradient of the ordinary refractive index, dn o /dT, and extraordinary refractive index, dn e /dT, of the liquid crystals is also studied.  相似文献

We have designed a unique hybrid structure by directly growing ultrathin anatase TiO(2) nanosheets onto graphene support for fast lithium storage. With exposed (001) high-energy facets, these TiO(2) nanosheets serve as ideal hosts for fast and efficient lithium storage. On the other hand, the graphene support serves as a highly conductive substrate that is beneficial to the high-rate performance.  相似文献

We analyze the occurrence of the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) transition in thin films of NbN at various film thickness, by probing the effect of vortex fluctuations on the temperature dependence of the superfluid density below T(BKT) and of the resistivity above T(BKT). By direct comparison between the experimental data and the theory, we show the crucial role played by the vortex-core energy in determining the characteristic signatures of the BKT physics, and we estimate its dependence on the disorder level. Our work provides a paradigmatic example of BKT physics in a quasi-two-dimensional superconductor.  相似文献

The non-linearity parameter B/A is estimated for a number of liquid crystal materials of the type N-(p-n-alkoxy benzylidene)-p-n-alkyl anilines, popularly known as nO.m, where n and m are the aliphatic chains on either side of the rigid core, which can be varied from 1 to 18 to realize a number of LC materials with a variety LC phase variants. The B/A values are computed from both density and sound velocity data following standard relations reported in literature. This systematic study in a homologous series provides an opportunity to study how this parameter behaves with (1) either the alkoxy and/or alkyl chain number, (2) with the total chain number (n+m), (3) with increase in molecular weight and (4) whether the linear relations reported in literature either with αT [thermal expansion coefficient (α) and temperature (T)] and sound velocity (u) will hold good or not and if so to what extent. The results are discussed with the body of data available in literature on liquids, liquid mixtures and other LC materials.  相似文献

Refractive index studies are carried out on two highly polar liquid crystals: 1. N-(p-n-methoxy benzylidene)-p-amino benzonitrile, PmBAB, 2. N-(p-n-ethoxy benzylidene)-p-amino benzonitrile, PeBAB. The experimental investigations are carried out in the visible region at four different wavelengths, namely, 633, 589, 546 and 436 nm. The two compounds exhibit only the nematic liquid crystalline phase in between the isotropic and crystalline solid. The dispersive power ω is estimated for two consecutive wavelengths for the case of <n>, ne and no for different wavelengths and found to be constant with temperature. Further the temperature gradients of ne and no are estimated, and the crossover temperature is obtained using dno/dT for all the wavelengths.  相似文献
